Apparently I’m of Slavic decent, though I don’t know exactly who my parents were, which is why my name lack a patronymic. Around the 9th century, when I was little, I used to live together with my cute older sisters, Ukraine and Belarus, in the Kievan Rus'. The state was governed by Norsemen, but they weren’t very good at parenting, so I pretty much had to move to Novgorod before long. Parting with my sisters was really sad, but I decided that we would all be together again in the future.
I spent my first years of adulthood in Moscow, were I was proclaimed the Tsardom of Russia in 1547 by Ivan IV, more commonly known as Ivan the terrible. He insisted on conquering a lot of land to the east, and his successors followed suit. I would have wanted to go south instead.
I spent many years fighting Poland-Lithuania to get my sisters back, and eventually succeeded (almost) in the 18th century.
I became communist in 1917, and spent most of the time after that trying to increase my territories and spread the philosophy. Things went bad rather quickly after the wars, and then people started listening to the Beatles, and Gorbachev. This meant the Soviet Union more or less fell apart and I became the Russian Federation. And I lost my sisters once again.
Luckily, I’m not alone. I still have 21 autonomous within my territories. And Chechenya, you are not going anywhere….
